Over 200 people gathered in Southampton City Centre yesterday to show solidarity towards Palestine.
Campaigners paraded to BBC offices in Havelock Road protesting against BBC’s ‘biased reporting’ on Israel’s military attacks. Chants including ‘shame shame BBC’ and ‘occupation no more’ could be heard as the crowd called for peace in Gaza.
The huge crowd temporarily slowed traffic while marching with Palestinian flags towards the final protest point, outside West Quay.
Over the last week of violence between Israel and Gaza, the UN has reported as much as 77% of the 194 casualties in Gaza have been civilians, 38 being children.
The demo was organised in just a few days, by the Southampton branch of the Palestinian Solidarity Campaign and Students for Palestine.
Palestinian campaigner Hiba Nabih, who attended the demo yesterday, said, “I’ve seen what’s been happening over the years they are killing children. It’s inhumane and people need to know what’s happening over there. It’s not about terrorism.”
